The festive season for me means glitter. TONS of glitter. Probably too much glitter. You can never have too much glitter!

As my dress for New Year's Eve (post up on the 1st) is silver sequins almost all over, I have been brainstorming some makeup ideas after investing in a silver glitter eyeliner. This is what I came up with:

A Touch of Glitter and Then Lots More

I have read so many Liebster Award posts and always wondered when my time would come! Thanks to Karin from Balloon's Life for the nomination, I can finally take part!

Liebster Award + First Vlog

It's just over an hour till it's officially Christmas, so I thought I'd take the opportunity to write my last holiday post for this year *tear*.

Big thanks to my blogging friend Ka(5)thleen for nominating me for this tag - she recently posted an amazing Wicked makeup tutorial which is definitely worth a read.

 1. When does Christmas start for you?

I'm the sort of person who doesn't get excited for most things until they are actually happening, so although I enjoy a carol or two around mid-December, Christmas officially begins at the 1 week countdown.

2. What is one Christmas movie you have to watch?

I have a confession. I haven't seen a lot of famous Christmas movies - including Home Alone and The Grinch! I do however thoroughly enjoy Elf and every year my family and I sit down to watch The Muppets Christmas Carol - a Lowe tradition it seems.

3. Do you bake or buy a Christmas cake?

Confession time again: I buy my Christmas cake! Oh, the horror. To be honest, I am not the biggest fan of the fruity substance. Instead I prefer the desserts made by either my aunt or mum at the dinner table! Chocolate bread and butter pudding? Homemade chocolate ice cream?! Yes please!! (the chocolate thing is a favourite of mine)

4. When do you put up your Christmas tree?

Our (artificial) Christmas tree is usually resurrected each year around the 6/7th of December and then taken down on the 6/7th of January.

5. Do you have a real or fake Christmas tree?

I love my tree because it is an explosion of colour and memories from all the homemade decorations made by my sister and I as well as souvenirs from family holidays and gifts from relatives, such as these cute knitted figures made by my granny.

Okay, so I'm pretty sure we all know Christmas is only three days away. As a Christmas temp at Next, I have very mixed feelings for the Boxing Day sales and I haven't even finished my Christmas shopping yet. And I'm absolutely sick of Christmas carols. But, you should always take the time to relax and have a breather.

Hopefully at least one of these (rather cringeworthy) Christmas cracker type jokes will make you crack a smile. Crack(er) a smile - geddit? Yeah, expect that level of quality throughout.

Destressing Christmas Cracker Jokes

As Christmas is now under a week away (!!!), I know many of us are brainstorming outfits and looks for the special day and of course all the parties around it.

Red lips are a perfect party choice for a bold look. It gives the illusion of loads of effort and thought, but this look is actually pretty simple to do. And the curls only took me 10 minutes to complete - great for people who love lie ins (who doesn't?)!

I arrived back from my school trip to Hamburg just last Friday and it went so fast but I had such a fantastic time. Staying with an incredibly kind German family, I got to explore a country I have always wanted to visit and managed to practice out some of my German speaking skills!

At home, I use an abundance of skincare products from cleansers to toners as well as lotions and face masks. Unfortunately, as much as I would like to, I can't fit all of my lovelies inside a suitcase for travel.

The decision of which to take is extremely hard, but I managed to pick out my top 5 products. Non surprisingly, the majority of these ended up focused for acne which I have mildly, however the toner is great for all skin types.

Who doesn't love a cute cupcake now and again (and again and again...)? I get so excited when I discover a cafĂ© focused specifically on a dessert, such as the Cupcake Cafe Bar in West Lothian.

I was over the moon when I was able to attend GlamCandy's VIP Blogger Event where a small group of us were given a taster of what the company has to offer. GlamCandy is a Hair and Makeup School and Agency based in Edinburgh, providing students with a variety of courses and masterclasses suited to their needs.

Oh and if you're looking for a new set of 24 makeup brushes for just £25, you should probably keep reading...

Surprisingly, I have only ever had one commercial advent calendar, and that was when I was a vegan! Other than that, my parents would wrap up 20ps and Maltesers in tin foil and use a knitted calendar with a picture of Santa in a snowy scene at the top (am I the only one?).

Two years ago, I embarked on a 30 day mission to live a vegan diet. Why? I like a challenge and I wanted to see how I coped with a supposedly healthier lifestyle.

Going all out vegan was definitely too much for me - go team sausage!

However, always looking for ways to improve my health and lifestyle choices, I decided to try out Graze after a few of my friends recommended it.

So, what is Graze all about?

I've never had much luck with fake tan. I'm quite happy with my own pale complexion, but after being asked by Vita Liberata if I would like to test out a product from the new NKD SKN collection, I decided to try to conquer fake tan once and for all.

Last night I hosted my very late 17th birthday party and, as it is nearing the party season, I thought I would show you my look - outfit,  makeup and hair - to hopefully provide some inspiration!

This post is focusing on my outfit and next weekend will feature the makeup and hair - the curls took me under 10 minutes to do!

I think I may have discovered my new favourite bath bomb. My all-time favourite was Golden Wonder, but Shoot For The Stars from LUSH may have knocked its Christmas co-star off the top spot! It was so good that I made a video of it! (see it below)

My love for Nutella is indescribable. It cannot be put into words. However, if someone gifted me even just a small jar of the good stuff, I would smother them with hugs. And who doesn't like hugs? It's a win-win situation.

I know many other Nutella fans will share my feelings and so if you know someone like me, here is the perfect gift guide. Highlights include etsy accessories, a live Pinterest feed and DIY vegan Nutella!

If you do decide to gift any of these ideas, you'll be smothered with hugs in no time! Don't say I didn't warn you ;).

Recently I was offered the amazing opportunity to meet Carolyn Baxter; a local dress designer, boutique owner and Youtube partner with almost 22,000 subscribers!

The point of the event was to hear Carolyn's story of how social media led her to launch her own successful fashion business. She has had such an exciting past four years with the rapid growth of her YouTube channel, presenting New Look TV in Glasgow and many more fantastic opportunities - not to mention the startup of her own business!

The boutique (44 London Street) is decorated beautifully, with all of Carolyn's gorgeous designs displayed for customers to browse.

Why I Changed My Blog Name

This week I got my first taste of working in the fashion industry by helping out with Metropolitan Fashion's catwalk show, displaying Christine Watson's "A Touch of Pink" collection. And? I loved it!

My role was to run the social media accounts and I have some lovely Instagrams to share with you below. The experience was very hectic but incredibly fun and the atmosphere was just fantastic.

If you didn't know, this week was National Chocolate Week. The best week. A perfect excuse to indulge and binge on white, milk and dark - and everything inbetween. To celebrate this fantastic occasion, my family and I decided to try out The Chocolate Tree in Edinburgh (123 Bruntsfield Place).

And what a wonderful decision 'twas!

Attention Chocoholics - The Chocolate Tree Review

Having recently joined the Metropolitan Fashion team, I am extremely looking forward to the first fashion show I will be helping out at! It aims to be a very fun night for all with the fantastic opportunity to buy one-off pieces from the marvellous Christine Watson's new collection: 'A Touch of Pink'.

The team is still looking for models for this show and for future events so, if you're interested, leave me a comment and I'll give you all the information you need.

If you understand how unwilling I am to spend my own money on pampering myself, you will know I was very excited when I received a voucher for a manicure at the luxurious Harvey Nichols Nails Inc nail bar in Edinburgh. The 15 minute mani also came with a glass of champagne! Unfortunately though I am only 16 and so had to give the fizz a skip. My sister liked her morning drink though (what an alchy).

What's a trip to the Zoo without skipping alongisde the flamingos, a few Lion King references and naming all the monkeys after your closest friends? A pretty bad trip, I'd say.
Enjoy my photographic thoughts on Edinburgh Zoo and the animals within it.

As you may already know I have a fantastic skill for losing makeup products on a very regular basis. So, when I lost my Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer I went straight out to buy another one! I then found my original afterwards - oops...
Luckily for me, Boots had (and still has!) a deal to get a free Collection Supersize Fat Lash Mascara when you spend £5 or more on Collection products! Retailing for £2.99 it's not that big a save but who can resist an offer on mascara (not me)?!

Imagine you are a food-loving Edinburgh girl turning twenty. Where do you go for your birthday meal? Why, Twenty on Princes Street of course!

I love scrolling through all the beautiful hairstyles on Pinterest and Instagram, but I strongly dislike the fact that I can't do any of them. Like, any. At all. My hair and I have an extremely temperamental love-hate relationship.

We all know the usual postcard checklist: food, weather and activities. In fact, whether you're a giver or a receiver, you probably know it a little too well, and often get sick and tired of the same boring bragging facts each year.

Postcard Humour with David Lowe

Wow, it's been around three weeks since my last post - oops! I really have no excuse apart from I was on holiday for a bit (expect outfit photos v soon) but I'll try my very best not to let it happen again.
Anyway, during this time I have been able to paint my nails in a few funky designs that I am rather pleased with. Just to show off even more, I decided to practice my GIMP (a free version of Photoshop) skills. Hope you enjoy the pictures!

Nails and Mini Life Update

Now I know makeup isn’t a necessity in life and some people look perfectly lovely bare-faced – so please don’t think I believe everyone looks or should feel ugly without it – I definitely don’t. This tutorial (can I call it that?) is for those days when you can’t really be bothered caking on creams and powders, or perhaps when you have to wear suncream and will have to reapply throughout the day but still want to look somewhat like the person you present when wearing makeup. Capiche? Good.

Maybe I should have titled this post "How I Try to Look Good Without Makeup" but I think it's good to have some self-confidence. And if you think I look not so good, well that's your opinion and you are perfectly entitled to it.

What you will need:

  • Exfoliant
  • Cleanser
  • Toner
  • Moisturiser
  • Mouthwash (optional)
  • Toothpaste
  • Lip scrub
  • Lip balm (definitely not optional are you insane?!)
  • Tweezers
  • Spooly or old mascara wand
  • Scissors (optional)
  • Glass (or more) of water
(I guess most of these are optional depending on personal preferences but this is what I recommend for most people)

Step 1: Water
Drink a glass of water. Go on, I dare you. As soon as you wake up, take a drink, even If you dilute a glass of fresh apple (how I do it). Water will rehydrate your skin after sleeping, helping to reduce puffiness around eyes and also dark circles. It should also help to make your skin less saggy over the long-term, so stick at it! You’ll be glowing in no time.

Step 2: Exfoliate, Cleanse and Tone
Exfoliating makes your skin super soft and smooth, which is why it is great for days when you’re not using foundation and powder to fake that idealised complexion. My weapon of choice is baking soda, also known as bicarbonate of soda. Just mix with a little water to create an easy to apply paste.

love curling my hair. Unfortunately, my hair is pretty thick which means it takes absolutely aaaages with a curling wand. It also damages it long-term so I knew I needed to find another solution to get the flowing curls I so desired.
In a quest to find the best non-damaging ways of curling my hair, I came across the unusual sock method.
I followed this tutorial by Ulrika over at Divine Caroline and Yet Another Beauty Site. After following the instructions, I ended up looking like this:

SS14 has brought us some spectacular trends but two in particular have caught my eye. With summer, came the lovely flowing kimonos. With festivals, came the boho chic tassels. Mix these two styles together and what do you get? A rather beautiful creation known as the tassel or fringed kimono. Here are just a few of my favourites:

With the Edinburgh International Fashion Festival taking place (7-25 July), last night I attended Topshop's Fashion Forum Event and what a great night it was! The after-hours event began with a bit of mingling, cake and champagne (don't worry, I stuck to the brownies).
Perhaps digressing slightly, but those were some seriously deliciously gooey brownies provided by the amazing local Lovecrumbs! If you are craving cake I suggest you head over there straight after reading this post or check out their heavenly gallery *drools*.

I have always been terrified to dye my hair after hearing so many horror stories of bleached chunks dissolving and falling out - not for me. However, I have always wanted to have pink hair, kinda like candyfloss. Can you see my dilemma?

Without bleaching my mousey-brown/dirty-blonde locks I know I can never achieve the baby pink I desire, so I have had to research non-damaging hair dye techniques. Enter Kool-Aid. The popular American powder drink is known for having a variety of flavours in an assortment of bright colours. Luckily this mean it is great for dying your hair! Although I wouldn't like to imagine what it does to your insides...

Dying Hair with Kool-Aid, Oh My!

I have been so eager to paint my nails since they decided to grow for summer (yay!) and fancied trying out a new nail art design. I settled on the cling film technique, commonly known as the 'saran wrap' technique in America. You can find a great tutorial for it by Leanne at Do Not Refreeze here.
I wanted a really colourful combination and thankfully the end result leaves me feeling all lovely and summery - just what I was aiming for. I appear to not be very good at naming nail art designs - any advice would be appreciated greatly!

Summer Deconstructed | Nail Art Design

It's FINALLY summer and, for once, the weather has been agreeing with the appropriate season. In celebration of this I took to the town and rewarded myself for a hard year at school (any excuse will do really). Hope you enjoy!

Stocking up for Summer: Beauty Haul

You may be going ewww at the title of this post - salt and vinegar may be nice on chips but on your face?! I assure you, this homemade toner will make your skin super soft, soothe and calm it, improve your overall complexion and may even reduce redness, acne and scarring. Well, that's how it has helped me anyway.
And if you're worrying you will smell like the chippy down the road - don't. The scent fades straight away and actually just smells like tasty apples.
