I Went to Nando's and Had a Salad

I know, I know. I went to a chicken restaurant and had a dish without chicken. I didn't even have a Beanie wrap with the usual side of peri peri chips - I had a salad. A leafy, green, healthy, vegetable-stuffed bowl of salad-ness. Arrest me.

Quite honestly, I just fancied this new addition to the menu after ordering so many butterfly chickens with a side of coleslaw and chips. I have expanded my Nando's choices from that original order to a beanie wrap with peri peri sweet potato wedges to now choosing to have a salad. Choosing to have a salad.

Often when I order a salad in a restaurant (which isn't that often admittedly) I am left disappointed. A lot of places present what looks like the garden hedge trimmings and a tuft of grass perhaps with a nice slice of cucumber or two. However Nando's offering surpassed my hopes and I couldn't be happier with their Quinoa Salad.

"With sweet potato and avocado chunks, piccolo tomatoes, cucumber, crisp salad leaves and a good sprinkling of feta cheese, sesame & roasted seeds." - Nando's

Sweet potato and avocado are two of my absolute favourite foods so I was immediately hooked. Tomatoes and cucumbers - meh can't complain really. Salad leaves are a given and the feta cheese lured me in. I'm still deciding whether I'm a seeds sort of girl or not. I'll keep you updated.

Quinoa (pronounced keen wahh), in case you've never heard of it, is a grain similar to cous cous which the internet tells me is apparently almost a complete protein and is considered one of the healthiest whole grains. Not bad for a salad eh.

It's nice to step out of your comfort zone sometimes - lemon and herb butterfly chicken with peri peri chips can get a little repetitive - and I think a delicious salad at Nando's is one of the best ways to convey this.

Would you ever try a salad at Nando's? Let me know how you find the quinoa salad!
